Maisie Smith may have had a rollercoaster journey on Strictly Come Dancing after landing in the bottom two several times, but her first semi-final performance saw her triumph with a perfect score.
The EastEnders actress, 19, danced to Will Smith’s Getting’ Jiggy Wit It for her first routine of the night with Gorka Marquez, which landed her the maximum 30 points.
Judges Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse said the routine would go down in history as one of the best Strictly has ever seen, leaving Maisie overwhelmed with their comments.
Craig Revel-Horwood finally cracked and gave Maisie a 10, before Shirley held up her 10 paddle and Motsi joked that she was giving her 11 out of the possible 10.
Maisie and Gorka couldn’t hold their excitement at their first perfect score of the series, with Maisie gushing: ‘It feels incredible, oh I am so happy!’
As well as having to learn two dances in one week, Maisie also had a very busy week of filming which meant she was working extremely long days to get her dance training in as well.
Gorka said: ‘It’s been such a difficult week as she’s been so busy and put so much effort into it that this just means the world to both of us.’
Maisie had previously wound up in the dance-off after landing in the bottom two of the public vote, but was saved by the judges for her consistently great dances.
She performed the couple’s choice street dance as well as a Viennesse Waltz on Saturday’s episode of Strictly to fight for her place in next week’s final.
Maisie almost got a second perfect score for her Viennesse Waltz after she received 10s from Motsi and Shirley and a nine from Craig.
