Strictly fans angry as tribute to late Fame singer Irene Cara is missed

Strictly fans have been fuming amid claims the ballroom dancing show "missed" paying a full tribute to the late Fame and Flashdance singer Irene Cara.

Former Corrie star Kym Marsh, 46, paid homage to Cara, who played the role of Coco Hernandez in the 1980 blockbuster film Fame and recorded the title song, with her performance yesterday (Friday).

However, some fans were less than impressed that a more fulsome tribute was not made after Cara died last month at the age of 63.

One said: "I know I’m a bit late to the party but someone should absolutely mentioned the sad death of Irene Cara.

That was wrong," while another opined: "Loved Kim's dance but can't believe no one mentioned Irene Cara."

A third added: "Are they going to mention that the iconic Irene Cara died this week??!!" while a further commentator said: "IRENE CARA Mention please!!!!!"

Others criticised Strictly's treatment of Cara's signature song What a Feeling, with one commenting: "If Irene Cara wasn’t dead she would be now after that treatment of Fame by the Strictly singers."

Another stated: "RIP Irene Cara – although it's probably a mixed blessing that you're not here to hear the Strictly singers murdering Fame…"

As Kym and partner Graziano Di Prima returned back to the ballroom after a week away, the actress opened up on how much of an "honour" it was to be performing to Cara’s song.

The BBC said: "The perm, the legwarmers, the tune we'll remember, remember, remember Kym and Graziano's routine!"

One Strictly fan said: "Loved the tribute to the effortlessly talented Irene Cara with Kym & Graz's cha cha back with finesse! Fleur would have also aced this dance&song but wow wish I had the body confidence to wear this for dance!"

Another commented: "Ah welcome back Kym and Graziano you’ve been missed last week and I’m glad you’re feeling better again that was such a wonderful routine and tribute to Irene Cara as well and I’ll give you both a 9 :)"

A third gushed: "Kym came back with a bang tonight after one week away. This dance really embodied the spirit and feel of FAME which I liked.

"Irene Cara would be proud. Great Cha Cha content and standing leg as well. Well done Kym."
