  • AND SO IT BEGINS

Strictly Come Dancing fans are gearing up for another week of sparkle and splendour, as the stars of 2019 take to the dancefloor tonight.

Performing to tracks from hit makers such as Frank Sinatra and Sam Smith this weekend’s show will see the remaining contestants battle it out for a chance to win the Glitterball Trophy.

Still in the competition and performing in week five are firm favourites Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse, who will dance the Cha Cha Cha to Get Stupid by Strictly alum Aston Merrygold.

Meanwhile, Emma Weymouth, who was almost eliminated from the contest last weekend, and her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec, will attempt the Viennese Waltz to Saving All My Love by the late Whitney Houston.

Other competitors on the night include former EastEnders actress Emma Barton, comedian Chris Ramsey and YouTube sensation Saffron Barker.

Naturally, they all hope to impress the judging panel, which is made up of Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse.

Tonight, long-serving judge Bruno Tonioli, 63, will be replaced by Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Alfonso Riberio, 48, as he heads to The States for Dancing With The Stars, the American version of Strictly.

The flamboyant Italian revealed he would be taking a week off the show via Instagram on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

Addressing his 203,000 followers, he wrote: “I’m going to miss you guys! Stay safe and I will see you in a week. “I'm crap at staying off my phone and so I’m not even going to try.”

On Sunday's results show, Bruno promised Strictly fans: “Alfonso has been briefed and he is going to be even more energetic than me! In the last two years Bruno has had to miss a week of the show, with him first absent in October 2017, followed by a week last October. Alfonso filled in for the professional dancer in 2018 and was an instant hit with fans of the dance contest. The actor won series 19 of Dancing With The Stars in 2014.

A BBC representative told The Sun Online the celebs would face “returning guest judge Alfonso Ribeiro” on this Saturday's show, describing the panel as an “awesome foursome”.
