Johannes Radebe, Kem Cetinay, Kadeena Cox MBE, Gavin Esler and Michelle Collins were the Celebrity MasterChef contestants to bag themselves a spot in the quarter-final stage of the BBC competition on Wednesday evening. However, after a successful first round, Johannes went on to make an embarrassing blunder when he was asked to make a dish just from tasting the ingredients, leaving his head in his hands.
The second challenge that TV chefs John Torode and Gregg Wallace set for the celebrities was called the street food challenge.
The contestants were asked to taste a street food dish from Turkey and identify the ingredients in the dish.
After tasting the dish and writing down what they thought the ingredients could be, John revealed to the celebrities that they were going to be cooking Gözleme served with baba ghanoush.
The celebrities were given two trays of ingredients, however, there were four rogue ingredients on there that they had to figure out didn’t belong in the dish.

With one hour to recreate the dish, Johannes picked out the first ingredient, cream, to make the dough.
He said: “I’ve never heard of cream being used in bread,” to which he was correct as it would have made the dough fatty.
Another ingredient was a courgette, which Johannes also realised wasn’t meant to be in the baba ghanoush.
Cooking his dish, Johannes was the only celebrity to put his aubergine in the oven, however, it came with a price as he told the cameras: “I’ve burnt myself already, and it’s only day one!”
Once the celebrities had finished cooking, John revealed the four rogue ingredients, which included cheddar cheese.
Hearing this revelation, Johannes put his head in his hands in embarrassment as he realised he had put the cheese in his dish.
Being first up to serve his version of the Gözleme and baba ghanoush, Johannes said: “It does look similar, I wonder if it tastes the same.”
John tasted the dish first and said: “Your Gözleme, the dough is perfect, how thin it is, I think the spinach one tastes fantastic.
“Your potato, you’ve got lots and lots of salty feta cheese, and you’ve got tangy cheddar cheese in there.

“The aubergine has been cooked really, really nicely, you’re almost there,” John explained.
Gregg then tasted the dish and shouted: “Seven!” to which Johannes laughed and said: “I’ll take that!”
Speaking to the cameras after, Johannes commented: “I am honestly very chuffed with myself, they’ve boosted my morale, I’m in a different space now than I started.”
The last dish Johannes created was his take on a burrito stuffed with chilli beef, baked in the oven with cheese sauce, and served with guacamole.
Gregg was up first to taste the dish, commenting: “Inside there you’ve got soft beef, you’ve got the sweetness of peppers.
“I would like more adventure from you, I would like more ambition from you, but it tastes good,” he explained.
John then added: “I’m not displeased with this at all, I would eat it, but the thing is it’s MasterChef, and it’s a burrito and some avocado dip, that might be an issue.”
Speaking about the judge’s comments, Johannes said: “There was lack of ambition to what I’ve created, but I’m happy that it didn’t taste bad if that makes sense.”
Celebrity MasterChef continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.
