The Big Bang Theory: Penny's top in final scene was a nod to season one

The Big Bang Theory finale had a sweet nod to season one in the very last scene.

The series came to an end after 12 seasons with Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and their friends all sat together eating takeaway as they have done many times over the years.

One eagle-eyed fan on Reddit spotted that Penny’s outfit in the last moments of The Stockholm Syndrome show the character has come full circle.

Posting two pictures of Penny in her first and last scene, they noted that the character is wearing light-blue T-shirt with purple flowers trailing down one side. It was the same top Penny wore when she first met Leonard and Sheldon in season one.

Other fans noted that she has worn that top for other significant moments in the past.

Fan snazzy_E_4eva wrote: ‘She also wore that shirt when Leonard asks penny out again after the break up and after Priya. And they were unpacking Bernadette’s wedding gifts, just like penny was unpacking her move.’

Another fan added that Sheldon is wearing a Flash-themed T-shirt as he did in the pilot while a further comment claimed Howard’s belt is the same one from the first episode.

You’ve got to hand it to TBBT fans for their attention to detail.

In the two-part finale it as revealed that Sheldon and Amy (Mayim Bialik) had won the Nobel that they so desperately wanted.

Meanwhile Penny and Sheldon revealed they were going to have a baby – despite Penny previously insisting several times that she didn’t want children.

Speaking out about the characters’ U-turn on starting a family, producer Steve Holland told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘Leonard and Penny had been talking about having children – and the decision not to – this season.

‘Their relationship was really the jumping off point of this whole show and it felt important to us to honor that relationship.

‘I love them together and I wanted to know that they were ending in a happy place.’
