The Chase fans go wild as brainy team win £21,000 jackpot against The Governess

THE Chase viewers cheered a team to victory today in the final show before the Euros.

A full house of four players split the £21,000 jackpot as they defeated The Governess Anne Hegerty.

It was the perfect end to the week for some watching at home, who credited it with making their day.

One viewer tweeted: "Well done full house £5,000 each."

Another posted: "Absolutely love it when the contestants win the chase and how much it means to them. That celebration #TheChase."

A third wrote: "Highlight of my Friday watching this group on the chase win the jackpot."

However, among the jubilation there were also tears, as fans of Anne's wept over her loss.

A viewer wrote: "my 5 y/o sister just burst into tears bc we watched an episode of the chase where you lost and you're her favourite chaser."

The team had a respectable but by no means perfect 17, and Anne came very close to catching them.

However, a wrong answer and a push back with seconds to go sealed her fate.

Anne recently revealed she told "hard working" host Bradley Walsh to take time off to avoid having a "heart attack".

The 62-year-old quiz expert said she was "in awe" of Bradley, 60, for his relentless work ethic, but admitted she "worried" about him.

Anne, who joined the show in 2010, may have a fierce facade on TV – but admitted she cares deeply for her co-stars.

Admitting she loves working with the host and has a great relationship with him, she told MyLondon she often reminds Brad to take time off.

Anne told the publication: "What you see on screen is exactly what [Bradley's] really like, and right from the start he's been so generous to all of us Chasers.

“I’m always kind of in awe of Brad. I think he’s such a professional and absolutely delightful. I admire him enormously.

“I once said to Brad that I worry so much that he works too hard and I’m afraid he’ll have a heart attack. And he just went, ‘Oh but I love it'."

She added that the host "described the show as his pension" and is fairly certain he will "never leave".

“And I don’t think us Chasers will be going anywhere either as we love it," Anne also revealed, putting fans of The Chase at ease.

Having branched out from the gameshow with her appearance in ITV's I'm A Celebrity in 2018, the quizzer now presenter her own TV show.

Anne credited her hosting skills on Britain's Brightest Celebrity Family to Bradley after "watching and learning" from him for many years.

The Governess said: “It’s brilliant being a solo presenter. I’ve been watching Brad for so long; I don’t think I’m all that good, but I’m better than I would be if I didn’t have him to watch and learn from.”

She told Yours magazine of the role: "I never expected it at my age and I love it. Just that feeling that there is something I can do well, that people actually seem to like. I feel like I’m living the dream."

Anne recently revealed she often feels nervous on the ITV quiz show as she worries she will be "found out" and "look like an idiot" on TV.

She told the Metro: "It’s nice that I haven’t got to answer difficult questions.

"On The Chase there’s always this feeling of, oh no, today is the day I get found out, today is the day when they put a whole load of really tough questions in the final Chase on subjects I don’t know about and I look like an idiot."

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
