Meghan McCain is a controversial figure on The View as the loudest conservative voice on the panel. Her opinions are provocative and often lead to strong debates between her fellow co-hosts. Ahead of the Season 23 premiere this month, there had been rumors that John McCain’s daughter was not returning to the ABC talk show. Although the pundit did return, she now revealed what will drive her off the show for good and fans have started tormenting her on Twitter.
What will drive Meghan McCain off of ‘The View’ for good?
During the opening of the episode that aired on Tuesday, September 10, Abby Huntsman shared with viewers that her little girl has started school. The panelist added that her daughter is obsessed with Peppa Pig and now calls her “mommy pig” to her disliking.
Whoopi Goldberg weighed in and asked if she was into the “Baby Shark” song. Huntsman gave the lead moderator a look and started singing the children’s tune.
Before they started singing, McCain had interjected saying: “Please no, please. Oh my God, I hate ‘Baby Shark.’”
Goldberg and Huntsman sang a snippet of the song with the audience joining in.
“The fastest way to get me off this show… keep singing that song. I don’t have kids,” McCain said while looking at the audience.
Goldberg added: “Don’t tempt people. Don’t say things like that.”
‘The View’ fans torment Meghan McCain on Twitter
Goldberg warned McCain to not “tempt people” into driving her “off the show” and sure enough, fans on Twitter took on the challenge.
A viewer tweeted out the song to McCain and ended saying, “Leave the show.” At the end of the tweet, the user added the hashtags: “liar” and “hypocrite.”
Another fan also sang the song in a tweet and wrote: “We will take your word for it. Get out, you clueless hypocrite.”
A fan tweeted out a GIF with the lyrics to “Baby Shark” hoping to get her packing off of the show.
“Are you annoyed yet or should I keep going?” the user asked.
“Best part of today’s episode of The View was both Huntsman and Goldberg singing ‘Baby Shark’ and that you were planning to leave,” another viewer posted.
Another The View fan agreed with McCain in that “Baby Shark” drives her crazy, but would sing it “if that’s what it took” to have her off the show.
Meghan McCain pondered leaving ‘The View’
Over the summer there were rumors that McCain was considering leaving the ABC daytime talk show as it was emotionally draining for her.
“It’s getting to the point where it’s not worth the emotional toll every week,” a friend of McCain told The Daily Beast requesting anonymity. “If she doesn’t stay at The View, she will find other work.”
A Senior Executive Producer at The View shut down gossip that McCain was leaving.
“We don’t want people to attack Meghan. We’re happy to have Meghan there,” Hilary Estey McLoughlin told The Daily Beast. “I think she does want to be there. I think she wants to be on the show. She realizes it’s a very good platform for her and we love having her there. I feel like she will come back.”
Another rumor pointed at fellow co-host Sunny Hostin to being the leaker of the McCain stories.
A spokesperson for ABC News issued the following statement to Page Six: “As evident on The View, Sunny, an award-winning journalist and former federal prosecutor, never holds back and freely shares any and all opinions she has. She’s been a terrific addition to the table, a fierce and passionate advocate who brings smart and insightful analysis to every debate and discussion on the show. It’s been an incredible season, and we look forward to having her at the co-host table for an epic year ahead.”
