Adam Peaty and Katya Jones were eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday after failing to impress the judges and the public with their Jive. Motsi Mabuse offered words of encouragement to the Olympian but the Strictly pro hit back and accused the judge of being “too late” with her praise.

After finding out he was in the dreaded dance-off, Adam noted he was pleased to get the chance to perform the routine again.

Tess Daly remarked: “I know you really didn’t want to be here again. Are you okay?”

He said: “It’s a familiar place thankfully but hopefully we can not make a mistake and enjoy dancing together.”

“Well said,” Tess commented. “Motsi, you did say Adam’s Jive had energy, it had personality on Saturday night but there were mistakes.”

The Strictly host asked: “Can he rectify that now in the dance-off?”

“You can definitely rectify now and I do believe if you just breathe a little, relax and trust yourself – you have it in you.

“Relax, take it step by step because it was a brilliant Jive actually.”

“Too late,” Katya muttered as Tess asked whether Adam “believed” in himself.

“I think so,” the Olympian replied. “But what I’m finding out with dancing is if I give too much I make mistakes.

“I’ve got to reserve it a little bit, I’ve got to enjoy it because I never know when this experience will be over and I’m so grateful for every dance I get to do.”

Adam and Katya subsequently lost out to Tilly and Nikita in the dance-off.

Explaining his decision, Craig Revel Horwood said: “ “Firstly, I wouldn’t have put these couples in the bottom. That’s just me personally, but seeing they are there and I’ve got to choose, I’m finding it really difficult tonight and this isn’t like me.

“But for the reason of a better dancer and a better dance off scenario, I’m going to choose to save Nikita and Tilly.”

Motsi added: “I mean, it has been a tough competition. All the couples have performed really, really well.

“One of the biggest lessons I’ve ever learned while judging is music is key, and I think the couple for me that was more sound to the music is going to be Tilly and Nikita.”

”Well, this was a great dance-off,” Anton remarked. “I’m delighted for both couples performing that well in the dance-off. If you have a dance-off, you want both people to dance really, really well and they both did.

“I found it so equal I was desperate for something to happen to make me choose and there was a moment in one of the dances that made me decide and that was Tilly and Nikita.”

Head judge Shirley Ballas disagreed with her co-stars and would have saved Adam and Katya.

The Olympian and Strictly pro thanked Shirley for her vote of support.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday at 6.40pm.
