Will Emmerdale recast Aaron as Danny Miller quits role?

It truly was the end of an era in Emmerdale this week, as Aaron Dingle left the village.

No, you’re crying.

The long-serving character has been a mainstay of the ITV soap for many years, with actor Danny Miller having played the part since 2008.

Danny, 30, left the serial drama in 2012, before returning in 2014, when he would go on to feature in some of Emmerdale’s biggest ever storylines, most notably his relationship with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley).

Aaron, however, departed the eponymous village in sad scenes this Monday (December 6), as he struggled to come to terms with the death of boyfriend Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon) – not to mention the possibility that Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) might have had a role to play in his murder.

Fans were left heartbroken by his devastating exit, but some have wondered if the character will return in the future, perhaps even with a new actor in the role?

‘Please recast Aaron!,’ exclaimed one fan. ‘He’s my favourite character on the soap.’

Is there a possibility that Aaron would be recast?

It isn’t uncommon for soaps to recast main characters after an actor leaves the role. What’s more, it wouldn’t even be the first time a new actor took over the role of Aaron, given that Danny wasn’t the first actor to portray the character.

Prior to Miller taking over the role in 2008, actor Danny Webb played Aaron for three years between 2003 and 2006, appearing in a total of 19 episodes.

Danny Miller, however, didn’t rule out the possibility of him one day reprising his role, revealing that he was ‘comforted’ by the fact that the door was left open.

‘It’s been like a second home, and you never know what will happen in three, four years – I might come back!,’ he said.

‘I feel it’s a nod to Aaron that Emmerdale don’t just want to end his journey here. I feel very comforted by the fact I could return in the future.’

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm, with an extra episode on Thursday at 8pm.
