On Friday, Vernon Kay was back to front an ITV special of Loose Men for International Men’s Day. Vernon was joined by guest panellists, Mike Tindall, Iain Stirling and Ore Oduba who got together to discuss a number of topics. The show began with the panel discussing whether it is okay for a man to have a stag do when their partner has a baby.
However, things took an unexpected turn when Mike, who is married to Zara Tindall, the daughter of Princess Anne, recalled an incident during a family milestone which angered his wife.
The admission came about as the panel discussed Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington, who recently said parents should have a celebration to say goodbye to their “old life” when they have a baby.
“Apparently more dads are having these baby stag dos,” Vernon explained.
“Even spending thousands of pounds with weekends away with the lads.”
Turning to Ore, the former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! campmate said: “Your youngest is just five weeks old.
“Do you wish you’d had a baby stag do?”
“No!” he simply replied. “Shouldn’t, absolutely not. The very idea of it… if I had said to Portia weeks before she was due to give birth ‘I just need one last blow-out before my new life starts with you and the baby.’
“Those locks would have got changed so quickly. I wouldn’t have been allowed back in the house.”
The former Strictly star went on to add he understands how Kit came up with the idea.
Vernon went on to point out the baby stag do could be a modern-day version of wetting the baby’s head.
Iain joked: “In the olden days, didn’t the men go to the pub when the women are giving birth?”
Vernon looked at Mike as he sarcastically chipped in: “I don’t know who would do that
The presenter went on to admit he got kicked out of the room when his wife Tess Daly was in labour.
“When Zara had the first one, I got hungry so I got a Nandos,” Mike admitted.
“So, that did not go down well.
“Can you imagine me saying ‘Oh by the way I am just heading off? I am going to St Tropez for the weekend, I just need to get ready’.”
“Sure just at their hormonal high, it wouldn’t go down well,” the former rugby player added.
Iain went on to say men do have the “easy end of the bargain” when it comes to their partner’s giving birth.
“There are stresses on you as a man,” the Love Island commentator explained.
“When your partner’s pregnant you feel like you can’t help so it would be nice to be in a pub with your mates so you can talk openly about it.”
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
