Sausage rolls and other bakes recalled over contamination fears
Hundreds of thousands of sausage rolls and other bakes are recalled over fears they may be contaminated with small pieces of metal or plastic
- Asda, Sainsbury’s and Aldi are involved in the nationwide voluntary recall
- It applies to products made by Nottingham-based Compleat Food Group
Hundreds of thousands of sausage rolls and other savoury bakes are being recalled by supermarkets following a contamination alert.
The recall is being driven by concerns they may be contaminated with small pieces of plastic or metal due to a production line problem.
Asda, Sainsbury’s and Aldi are involved in the nationwide voluntary recall of products made by Nottingham-based Compleat Food Group.
The company makes own-label products for leading retailers as well as sausage rolls and pork pies for famous brands such Wall’s and Pork Farms.
The list of recalled products includes snack and mini sausage rolls sold by Asda and Sainsbury’s, as well as Asda’s Steak Slices and Chicken Tikka Slices.

Also on the recall list are Asda Extra Special Wykes Farm Extra Mature Cheddar and Caramelised Onion Chutney rolls.
It also includes Asda’s Salt and Pepper Chilli Chicken Slices, Mini Pork and Apple Sausage Rolls, Pesto and Mozzarella Pinwheels, several types of Cheese and Onion Rolls, and the Deep Filled Chicken and Gravy Puff Pastry Pie.
Sainsbury’s is recalling its Cheese and Bacon Snack Rolls, Cheese and Onion Rolls, and Pork Snack Rolls, while Aldi has withdrawn its Crestwood Cheese and Onion Rolls.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: ‘If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.’ The Compleat Food Group stressed the recall does not affect any other products from its associated brands.
A spokesperson said: ‘The safety and quality of our products is of paramount importance to us, and we take all issues regarding the production of our food extremely seriously.
‘A fault was identified through our inline metal detectors, and the affected lines were immediately shutdown while an internal investigation took place. After rectifying the fault, the site is now operating as normal.
‘Following the manufacturing fault, we informed relevant customers of a potential plastic and metal contamination of a limited number of retailer own label products.
‘We have voluntarily recalled the affected products as a precaution.’
