President Trump repeated his demand for more generous coronavirus relief on Saturday, saying the $600 dollars agreed to by the House and Senate was insufficient.
“I simply want to get our great people $2000, rather than the measly $600 that is now in the bill. Also, stop the billions of dollars in “pork,” Trump tweeted, explaining his decision to veto the $900 billion dollar bill which took Senate negotiators months to hammer out.
Trump’s 11th-hour veto Wednesday drove a wedge through his own party, who have so far balked at his demands, citing its high price tag.
His call for additional stimulus was enthusiastically taken up by his traditional opponents — like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who tried (and failed) to ram it through the House this week.
The president also continued to rail against the results of the 2020 presidential election, which he baselessly insisted was stolen from him as a result of widespread voter fraud.
“A young military man working in Afghanistan told me that elections in Afghanistan are far more secure and much better run than the USA’s 2020 Election. Ours, with its millions and millions of corrupt Mail-In Ballots, was the election of a third world country. Fake President!,” Trump said in one post that was instantly flagged by Twitter.
